Karl Eduard Hummel

Karl Eduard Hummel (born January 29, 1806 in Berlin , † April 9, 1892 in Düsseldorf ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently inspector of the 3rd fortress inspection.

His parents were the building inspector Karl Wilhelm Hummel and his wife Karoline Henriette Heidenreich .

Life

He received his education at the Köllnisches Gymnasium in Berlin. From there he went on January 8, 1823 as a pioneer in the 4th pioneer department. From October 1, 1823 to September 30, 1827 he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . At that time he was appointed portepeef ensign on March 15, 1825 and transferred to the 3rd engineer corps on December 30, 1826 as a surplus second lieutenant. On his return on October 1, 1827, he went to the 4th pioneer department, where he was assigned on September 29, 1828. On February 12, 1831, he was appointed adjutant of the 4th pioneer division and on September 1, 1833, he was appointed to the fortification service in Cologne . There he became adjutant of the 2nd Rhenish fortress inspection on December 2, 1835. On June 3, 1841, he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant and on July 3, 1842, he was transferred to the fortification service in Wesel . Promoted to captain on December 30, 1845, he became first adjutant in the 6th fortress inspection on May 30, 1848. On March 11, 1851 he was appointed engineer officer vom Platz in Wesel, where he was promoted to major on August 2, 1854 and to lieutenant colonel on May 31, 1859. He was transferred to the 3rd Fortress Inspectorate on October 8, 1859, and was appointed Colonel on October 18, 1861. On January 18, 1863, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class with ribbon, and on August 7, 1865, he left with the character of Major General and Pension. He died on April 9, 1892 in Düsseldorf.

In 1847, Hummel was judged as follows: With conscientious, persistent care and the sacrifice of his strength, knowledge and experience, he successfully devotes himself to the service. His endeavors are worthy of honor and recognition, his private relationships are in order. Sometimes suffers from rheumatic complaints.

He married on July 25, 1833 in Cologne Wilhelmine Mathilde Franziska Henriette Proebsting (born January 16, 1812), a daughter of the medical advisor Johann Christian Gottfried Proebsting (1774-1813). The couple had a daughter: Auguste Charlotte Luise Bertha (born August 19, 1838).
