Karl F. Schumann

Karl F. Schumann (born February 19, 1941 in Bautzen ) is a German sociologist and criminologist .

Life

Schumann studied sociology , psychology and criminology at the universities of Marburg , Heidelberg , Tübingen and Münster from 1959 to 1967 . In 1967 he received his doctorate from the University of Tübingen (doctoral supervisor: Ralf Dahrendorf ). From 1967 to 1969 he was a research assistant at the Center for Educational Research at the University of Konstanz. From 1970 to 1972 he was an American Studies Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and at the University of California, Berkeley .

From 1973 to 1977 Schumann was Scientific Advisor and Professor for Qualitative Methods at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University . Since 1977 he has been professor of criminology in the law department of the University of Bremen , since 2000 at the same time professor in the department of sociology at the University of Bremen. Schumann Professor has been retired since 2004.

Schumann is one of the representatives of critical criminology in Germany. He was one of the co-authors of the First and Second Periodical Safety Reports of the Federal Government.

The Criminological Society awarded him the Beccaria Gold Medal for services to criminology on September 30, 2017.
