Karl Ferdinand of Austria
Karl Ferdinand of Austria (born July 29, 1818 in Vienna , † November 20, 1874 in Groß Seelowitz ) was the second eldest son of Archduke Karl of Austria (1771-1847) and Henriettes of Nassau-Weilburg . This made him a grandson of Emperor Leopold II on his father's side . His older brother was Archduke Albrecht , who later became influential at the Viennese court .
As the son of the “ Victor of Aspern ”, he began his military career with Infantry Regiment No. 57 in Brno . He then took over the command of a brigade in Italy , after which he fought the rebels in Prague in 1848 .
In 1859 he was general in Moravia and Silesia , in 1860 he was transferred to Brno.

In 1854 Karl Ferdinand married the widow of Ferdinand Karl von Österreich-Este (1821–1849) , Archduchess Elisabeth Franziska Maria von Österreich (1831–1903), daughter of Joseph Anton Johann von Austria . His wife was also his first cousin, since her father was a brother of Karl Ferdinand's father. The marriage had six children:
