Karl Finsterwalder

Karl Finsterwalder (born April 14, 1900 in Rosenheim ; † January 9, 1995 there ) was a German linguist , topographer and geographer .

Life

Finsterwalder began recording field names in the Alps in 1928, which he incorporated into the maps of the Alpine Club from 1930 onwards. In 1930 he received his doctorate under Josef Schatz . From 1941 Finsterwalder was a lecturer at the University of Innsbruck . He published around 300 essays on place and field name research in Tyrol . These were published in three volumes from 1990 onwards.
