Carl Friedrich Drollinger
Carl Friedrich Drollinger (born December 26, 1688 in Durlach , † June 1, 1742 in Basel ) was an archivist , poet and translator. He was one of the first Swiss poets to achieve greater fame.
Life
Drollinger was born as the eldest of four sons of Johann Martin Drollinger (1656-1718) from Ellmendingen, now a district of Keltern , and Catharina Sibylla Müller (1660-1699) from Durlach a year before his hometown Durlach was destroyed. His family moved with him in the first year of his life to Badenweiler , where he lived until he was fifteen. After being tutored by private tutors, he studied at the University of Basel until 1710 , where he submitted his doctoral thesis in law at the age of 22 . He also spent the rest of his life in Basel , where he was the registrar of the secret archives of Margrave Carl III. Wilhelm von Baden-Durlach rearranged and evaluated. In 1722 he was appointed councilor and in 1727 archivist . He also advised the city of Basel on legal issues. In 1733 he became a member of the German Society of Leipzig , in whose writings his first works appeared.
