Karl Friedrich von Beckwith (* 1712 ; † 1787 ) was a Prussian major general and chief of Infantry Regiment No. 48 .

Life

Military career

Beckwith came to the continent with the English Legion. In 1757 he was Colonel and Commander of the 20th British Infantry Regiment (William Kingsley) in the Allied Army under the Duke of Brunswick. During the Seven Years' War he took part with the Legion in the Battle of Minden . In 1760 he became the commander of a grenadier brigade made up of mountain bulkheads . In 1762 he was then commander of the Légion Britannique . In 1762 he submitted an application to join the Prussian Army , which was granted on December 29, 1762. On April 28, 1763 Beckwith became major general with a patent from April 28, 1760 and also chief of Infantry Regiment No. 48 in Wesel . Dismissed from Prussian service in June 1766, he returned to Scotland as he owned land at Stanford Rivers , Essex and Epping Forest .

Beckwith married Janet Wishart (of Pittarow) on June 8, 1750 (* 1729; † July 28, 1827) and later became brother-in-law of Philipp von Westphalen . The couple had several sons who served in the army, including:
