Karl Frik
Karl Frik (born November 30, 1878 in Schwäbisch Hall , † October 1, 1944 in Berlin ) was a German radiologist .
Life
After studying and doing his doctorate at the Kaiser Wilhelm Academy for military medical education , he began a military medical career. From 1905 to 1910 he was a troop doctor for the Schutztruppe in German South West Africa . He participated in the First World War as a medical officer.
In 1920 he retired from the Reichswehr and went to the I. Medical Clinic of the Charité of the University of Berlin . Here he took over the X-ray department in 1923. In 1924 he was appointed director of the Werner Siemens Institute for X-ray Research at the Moabit Hospital . From 1933 he worked as an honorary professor .
In 1939 he became full professor of radiology and radiology at the University of Berlin and at the same time took over the management of the newly founded institute for radiology, radiology and radiation therapy clinic at the Charité.
In the same year he received the Hermann Rieder Medal from the German Radiological Society . He used X-rays to treat cancers. He published numerous papers on therapeutic and diagnostic questions in radiology. In 1926 he founded the " Central Journal for All Radiology ". The German Radiology Society thanked him for his successful efforts to raise the academic reputation of radiology by appointing him as honorary chairman.
Karl Frik died on October 1, 1944 at the age of 65 in Berlin. He was first buried in the south-west cemetery Stahnsdorf near Berlin. The urn was later transferred to the Heerstraße cemetery in today's Westend district of Berlin (grave location: II-W-14 / U-7). He rests there at the side of his wife Erna, nee. Schultze (1884-1961).
He was the father of the radiologist Wolfgang Frik (1918–1994).
