Karl Gunther Barth (* 1948) was from 2001 to 2013 local chief and deputy chief editor of the Axel Springer AG belonging Hamburger Abendblatt .

Life

Karl Günther Barth studied German , philosophy and Protestant theology . In 1971 he became a journalist for a North Rhine-Westphalian daily newspaper. He later worked as the press spokesman for the police union (GdP) and in the Düsseldorf office of the German press agency . From February 1980 to 1989 Barth was editor and since April 1980 regional office manager in the Düsseldorf and Bonn offices of the magazine Stern ( Gruner + Jahr ). In July 1989 Barth published the book Waffenschmiede Deutschland. The bomb business . He then became deputy editor-in-chief of Express , only to return to Stern as an author in 1994. From March 15, 1998 to May 31, 2001 he was deputy editor-in-chief of the Springer publishing house picture . After a short break, in July 2001 Barth succeeded Menso Heyl , who had risen to become editor-in-chief, as local manager and deputy editor-in-chief of the Hamburger Abendblatt, which is also part of the Springer publishing house. At the same time he moderated the program Hamburger Presserunde on the TV station Hamburg 1 .

In 2006, the fact that Barth was spied on by journalist Wilhelm Dietl on behalf of the Federal Intelligence Service attracted a lot of attention.
