Karl Gottfried Jacobitz

Karl Gottfried Jacobitz (born December 7, 1807 in Zittau , † January 17, 1887 in Leipzig ) was a German teacher and classical philologist .

Life

He was born on December 7, 1807 in Zittau as the son of a citizen and cloth manufacturer. He attended the Zittau grammar school from 1821 to 1828 .

He then studied philology at the University of Leipzig . He was a member of the Royal Philological Seminary and the Greek Society of Gottfried Hermann and received his doctorate in philosophy on March 3, 1835 .

In 1838, at Stallbaum's suggestion, he became an assistant teacher at the St. Thomas School and was given a permanent position here in 1843. In 1857 he exchanged the position of a fifth colleague, which he had held there since 1848, with the same position at the Nikolaischule that had just become vacant after Kreussler's departure. He was promoted to third senior teacher in 1866 and second senior teacher in 1870 and retired in 1873.

He died on January 17, 1887, two years after celebrating the 50th anniversary of his doctorate.
