Karl Gottfried Wilhelm Theile

Karl Gottfried Wilhelm Theile , also Carl Gottfried Wilhelm Theile (born February 25, 1799 in Großkorbetha ; † October 8, 1854 in Leipzig ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor.

biography

From the winter semester of 1823, Theile taught at the University of Leipzig , where he was initially an associate professor and then in 1845 a full professor. In more than 30 years of uninterrupted teaching, he held a total of over 550 events.

Between 1845 and 1847, together with Ewald Rudolf Stier (1800–1862), he published a “Polyglot Bible” in which the writings of the Old and New Testaments are juxtaposed in different versions or translations (Urtext, Septuagint , Vulgate , Luther translation and variants of other translations into German). In 1849/50 he was a member of the second chamber of the Saxon state parliament as a representative of the 35th electoral district .
