Karl Gottlieb Lange (born October 12, 1780 in Breslau ; † August 23, 1842 ibid) was a German local politician and Lord Mayor of the city of Breslau .

Live and act

Karl Gottlieb Lange attended the Elisabet-Gymnasium in his hometown and then studied law in Halle . In the magistrate's records he appears in 1812 as a city councilor and from 1814 as a syndic. After Menzel was nominated mayor, Lange was appointed mayor. After Menzel's death in 1838, Lange succeeded him in the office of Lord Mayor.

On October 15, 1840, Lange traveled as head of the Breslau delegation to the homage ceremonies during the coronation of the new King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. He tried to point out the opposition mood in the bourgeoisie, but met with displeasure from the king. Only after the royal couple's visit to Wroclaw on August 14, 1841 did the monarch's attitude towards the Wroclaw magistrate improve again.

The Wroclaw City Theater was built during the long term of office . The most important innovation, however, was the opening of the Breslau-Ohlau railway line on August 23, 1842. A few weeks later, Lange died and was buried in the Great Cemetery in Breslau.

Karl Gottlieb Lange was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle .
