Otto Wagner (politician, 1877)
Otto Heinrich Ludwig Wagner (born October 4, 1877 in Reichenhausen , Bad Salzungen district , † December 1, 1962 in Jena ) was a German politician .
Life
Otto Wagner, who came from a linen weaver family, devoted himself to studying law at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena after completing his Abitur , which he achieved with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed. After working as an administrative lawyer , Wagner served as Second Lord Mayor of Jena from 1905 to 1908 , then as City Councilor and from 1918 to 1933 as Lord Mayor of Breslau before he was deposed by the National Socialists . Wagner - he was imprisoned several times for his anti-fascist stance - subsequently headed the foundation savings bank in Jena.
After the end of the Second World War , Otto Wagner joined the Liberal Democratic Party and was appointed provisional mayor of Jena by the American occupation forces on May 11, 1945. Two months later he resigned from office for health reasons and then worked as head of the city archives and legal advisor. On July 1, 1945 units of the Red Army moved into the city, Jena became part of the Soviet occupation zone .
On October 4, 1957, Otto Wagner was made an honorary citizen of Jena on the occasion of his 80th birthday . On May 30, 2008, a memorial plaque was inaugurated in his honor at the house on Reichhardstieg 2.
Since his studies, Wagner was a member of the St. Pauli Jena Choir , the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli (today the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli in Mainz ), Gotia Göttingen and Leopoldina Breslau ( German Choir ).
