Karl Gustav von Staal ( Russian Карл Густавович Сталь / Karl Gustawowitsch Stal ; born August 19, jul. / 30th August  1778 greg. In the parish Rappel in Estonia ; † February 4 jul. / 16th February  1853 greg. In Moscow ) was a Baltic German Russian general . His portrait hangs in the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg .

He joined the Preobrazhensk Guard Regiment in 1785 as a corporal and was assigned as a captain to the Perejaslowski Regiment (hunters on horseback) in 1796 . He took part in the Italian-Swiss fighting in 1799 in the Second Coalition War .

Basis of merit in the fight against the French (u. A. In the Battle of Eylau and in the Battle of Friedland ), he was appointed on October 12, 1811 Colonel and appointed the adjutant of the Tsarevich Constantine Pavlovich Romanov transported.

In 1812 he became Chief of Staff of the 5th Reserve Corps of the 1st Russian Western Army and on February 7, 1814 he was promoted to Major General. As the commander of the Astrakhan Kirasirski Regiment (the so-called Regiment of January 8, 1814 ), he distinguished himself in the fighting and eventually took part in the capture of Paris. From 1830 until his death he was commanding officer in Moscow; on July 25, 1833 he was promoted to lieutenant general and on October 10, 1843 general of the cavalry .

On April 27, 1838 he was appointed to the State Council.
