Karl H. Henking

Karl H. Henking (born October 4, 1923 in Banjarmasin , † February 5, 2005 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss ethnologist .

Life

He studied ethnology in Basel , Zurich , Amsterdam and Leiden (1952 Dr. phil. ). From 1954 assistant, then curator in the Department of Ethnology at the Historical Museum in Bern . From 1956 he had a teaching position for ethnology at the University of Bern (1961 habilitation ). He taught as a private lecturer (1961–1966) at the University of Bern and from 1963 as an assistant professor and associate professor (1981–1990) (focus on ethnology of religion) at the University of Zurich . From 1963 to 1990 he was director of the Völkerkundemuseum in Zurich.
