Alfred Steinmann
Alfred Steinmann (born January 10, 1892 in Lucerne ; † January 3, 1974 in Zurich ) was a Swiss ethnologist .
Life
From 1911 he studied botany, geography and ethnology at the University of Zurich (1916 Dr. phil. Nat. ). He was an assistant at the Institute for General Botany. From 1920 he was a specialist in the treatment of plant diseases, v. a. of those of the tea tree, at the Buitenzorg Institute on Java. From 1937 to 1938 studied ethnology in Vienna. In 1939 he became a private lecturer at the University of Zurich for ethnology. From 1948 to 1962 he taught as adjunct professor and from 1941 to 1963 he was the director of the Ethnographic Collection at the University of Zurich, from which the Ethnological Museum emerged.
