Karl Hassack (born December 9, 1861 in St. Pölten , † October 30, 1922 in Graz ) was an Austrian goods expert and author. As a professor of goods science , he taught at the Austrian commercial academies in Vienna and Graz and was a classic author of goods science textbooks.

Life

After studying in Berlin and Tübingen, he received his doctorate in 1886. rer. nat. and from then on he was a candidate for the merchandise teaching post at the Vienna Commercial Academy, where he was appointed professor for merchandise in 1890. In 1906, succeeding Viktor Pöschl, he moved to Graz, where he was director of the Graz Commercial Academy from 1909 to 1922. He created a state teaching materials office for commercial educational institutions.

His two-volume lexical textbook for goods science was in use in revisions by Ernst Beutel and Artur Kutzelnigg until the middle of the 20th century.

From the 1940s onwards, the abandonment of theory in Hassack's basic work was followed by new approaches to the logic of science in a technological and economic direction, from which, in a scientific and systems-theoretical orientation, the merchandise theory and, based on business administration, the merchandise management theory emerged.
