Karl Haus (born September 24, 1928 in Schweinfurt ; † January 9, 2018 ) was a German musicologist and composer .

Life

Karl Haus pursued his studies in Würzburg and Augsburg . After passing his state examination , he was hired as a music teacher at the local grammar school and the municipal singing school in Schweinfurt. In 1964 he took over its management and expanded it into a general music school. In the same year Karl Haus organized the “ Jugend musiziert ” competition for the first time . In 1965 he was offered a professorship for choral conducting and music education at the University of Music in Würzburg , which he accepted. From 1968 to 1987 he was in charge of the “Great Choir” and “Experimental Choir” at the university.

In addition to his job, he held numerous seminars at home and abroad, worked for specialist magazines and was a member of several associations and committees. His compositions mainly include cantatas , choral cycles and movements. A characteristic of his works is the constant consideration of the vocal possibilities of amateur choirs. Karl Haus has received several awards for his special musical achievements.
