Karl Heinrich Graf

Karl Heinrich Graf (born February 28, 1815 in Mulhouse ; † July 16, 1869 in Meißen ) was a German Protestant theologian (Old Testament scholar) and orientalist.

He studied theology and oriental languages ​​in Strasbourg from 1833 to 1837 (especially with Eduard Reuss ) and then worked as a tutor in Paris until 1843, and from 1847 at the St. Afra State School in Meißen. In addition to Abraham Kuenen, he is considered to be an important pioneer of the newer document hypothesis that Hermann Hupfeld developed and Julius Wellhausen further underpinned.

In addition, Graf dealt with Persian literature and even translated some works by the poet Saadi into German.
