Karl Heinz Robrahn (born August 20, 1913 in Rostock-Warnemünde , † March 18, 1987 in Rostock ) was a German Catholic poet.

biography

Robrahn attended high school in Güstrow until 1930 . He completed an apprenticeship as a banker and worked in this profession until 1947 in Lübeck, Rostock and Warnemünde . From 1948 to 1957 he was an accountant and manager.

He wrote his first poems in the 1930s as an apprentice in the bank's filing room. The poems were not printed until after the Second World War . From 1957 he lived as a freelance writer in Rostock and Warnemünde. He was a member of the GDR Writers' Association .

Robrahn's first poems appeared in the important collection of religious poetry Das dunkle DU , which Kurt Erich Meurer and Otto Josef Spachtholz published in Munich in 1953 . As a Catholic poet, Robrahn had only limited opportunities to work in the GDR. His volumes of poetry could only be published in limited editions by the church St. Benno-Verlag, Leipzig , and by the Berlin Union Verlag . Many poems were printed scattered in newspapers and magazines. Outside the church, the poet remained largely unknown. Three of his poetry volumes could not be published. The manuscripts are now considered lost.

Robrahn's poetry is characterized by a deep religiousness and a love for his Mecklenburg homeland and the sea. He was particularly inspired by the paintings by Vincent van Gogh and the sculptures by Ernst Barlach . In many poems he took up motifs from them and varied them. Among the most beautiful in his work are numerous love poems that he dedicated to his wife Magdalena.
