Karl L. Hoschna (born August 16, 1877 in Kuschwarda , Bohemian Forest , † December 23, 1911 in New York ) was an Austrian-American musician and composer.

Life

Karl Hoschna studied at the Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna . After successfully completing this course, he played as an oboist in various bands and later became a military musician in the Austro-Hungarian Army .

Hoschna emigrated to America and joined the Kapellmeister Victor Herbert in New York . In addition to his work (as a musician) with Herbert, several operettas emerged over time , almost each of which was an immediate success. His works found their way onto the stage all over the world in transmissions and arrangements and the songs soon found themselves as evergreens (e.g. Come to my love arbor ).

Through Herbert Hoschna made the acquaintance of Isidor Witmark , for whom he arranged pieces of music for some time. In 1902 he became friends with Otto Harbach , with whom he wrote the operetta The Daughter of the Desert in 1902 ; this piece was neither published nor performed publicly. In 1908 he wrote songs with Harbach for the revue Three Twin Girls , including the hit title Cuddle Up a Little Closer, Lovely Mine .

The further collaboration brought better results and from 1912 Hoschna worked just as creatively with Benjamin Hapggod Burt . The world premiere of his last work, The Wall Street girl did not live Hoschna.

He died in New York in 1911 and found his final resting place there.
