Karl Imfeld (sculptor)

Karl Imfeld (born February 27, 1953 in Lungern ) is a Swiss sculptor . He works in wood and stone.

Life

Imfeld grew up in the village of Lungern in the canton of Obwalden , where sculpture has a strong tradition. He completed an apprenticeship in wood carving there from 1968 to 1972, after which he learned to work stone. In 1972 he went to Locarno to study with Remo Rossi . From 1973 to 1974 he attended the Vienna Art Academy with the sculptor Fritz Wotruba . He has worked as a freelance sculptor since 1974 and has his studio in Lungern, where he also lives with his family.

Karl Imfeld creates sculptures in stone and wood, also in metal and glass. His areas of activity are building art, plaza design, fountains and sculptures. Many of his works are installed in public spaces, for example profane works in Oberarth (fountain), Schwyz (steel sculpture) and Sarnen (relief) as well as sacred works in Aarau, Ahrensburg, Bern, Courtepin, Egerkingen, Frankfurt, Lüchow, Murten, Nuremberg, Siegen, Stansstad, Witten and Zurich. Between 2003 and 2008 Imfeld organized six artist symposia in Lungern under the title Art-Work-Week , to which he invited artists from the community of artistically working Christians Das Rad eV . Imfeld also designs tombs and is considered one of the most important Obwalden tomb artists.

Imfeldcubi

Imfeld developed the idea of ​​the Imfeldcubi , a basically cubic, but not regularly rectangular shape, from which he also developed a line of furniture. The minimalist elements can be combined into numerous shapes. Imfeld presented the Imfeldcubi 2010 at several furniture fairs .
