Karl Koller (architect)

Karl Gottlieb Koller (born April 16, 1873 in Ragaz ; † February 1, 1946 in St. Moritz ) was a Swiss architect . He worked primarily as the architect of numerous larger hotels in the canton of Graubünden . Among other things, he designed the Hotel Waldhaus .

Education and life

After studying for a semester at the Technikum Winterthur, Koller began an apprenticeship with Chiodera and Tschudy at the age of 17 , where he worked until the turn of the century. At the age of twenty he received construction management tasks for the office's projects in Graubünden and Valtellina . In 1900, with his own office in St. Moritz, he was commissioned to build the largest hotel on the square, the Grand Hotel there. In addition to other hotel buildings, Koller built the hospitals in Scuol, Sent, Samedan and Poschiavo and, after the First World War, numerous private houses.
