Karl Lehrer (born September 14, 1905 in Berlin ; † June 27, 1949 there ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Karl Lehrer attended elementary school and did a commercial apprenticeship, later he attended a commercial college. In 1925 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the Central Association of Employees (ZdA). He became a commercial employee and in 1930 moved to the ZdA, local group for Greater Berlin, as a union secretary . In early May 1933, as part of the "smashing of the trade unions" by the National Socialists , Lehrer was dismissed. A period of prolonged unemployment followed for him. From 1936 to 1945 he was an employee of the "German Artificial Silk Syndicate".

After the end of the Second World War in 1945, Lehrer was one of the founders of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) in Greater Berlin and became a member of its board of directors for the association of commercial and office employees. In May 1948, teachers from the FDGB switched to the Independent Trade Union Opposition (UGO), which he co-founded . Teacher became first chairman of the “Union of Commercial, Office and Administrative Employees” (GkB) in West Berlin and a member of the provisional board of the UGO. On August 14, 1948 he was elected to the closer and executive federal management of the UGO, at the 1st Bundestag of the UGO (April 22–24, 1949) in its executive committee.

After Louise Schroeder resigned from the city ​​council of Greater Berlin , in January 1947 teachers moved up for her in parliament. In the December 1948 election , he was elected to the city council. However, teacher died just six months later. Otto Flieger took over for him .
