Karl Lieske

Karl Lieske (* 1816 in Großschönau near Zittau ; † March 21, 1878 in Munich ) was a German horse painter.

Born as the son of a factory owner, Lieske was supposed to take over his father's company, but decided to work as an artist. After the death of his father, Lieske attended the Dresden Art Academy and continued his studies from December 19, 1838 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . After graduating, he mostly worked as a horse painter in Munich. From 1843 he took part in the exhibitions of the Munich Art Association . He was friends with Theodor Horschelt (1829–1871), who studied from November 29, 1845 at the Munich Academy.
