Karl Müller (born January 1, 1904 in Berlin ; † March 21, 1945 there ) was a German resistance fighter of the KPD and the revolutionary trade union opposition .

Life

Karl Müller was a trained locksmith and joined the KPD and the revolutionary trade union opposition. He was married to Gertrude Milletat since 1928. The couple had a son. He first worked at General Motors . Due to his political and union involvement, however, he was fired. In 1935 he was employed by the AEG turbine factory in Berlin-Moabit . During the Nazi era , he supported illegal trade union activities. He distributed leaflets and collected money for relatives of the politically persecuted.

His apartment served as a conspiratorial meeting place, including for the resistance group around Robert Uhrig . On February 24, 1945, he was arrested and tortured by the Gestapo . Under the pressure of the interrogations, he betrayed his comrades in the company. He withdrew some of the statements in court. He and six of his colleagues were sentenced to death. Before the execution warrant could be carried out, Karl Müller hanged himself on the night of March 21, shortly after his trial, in his cell in the Lehrter Strasse cell prison .

In April 2003 Karl Müller was honored with a stumbling block . This is not at his home, but on the premises of the Siemens AG gas turbine factory in Berlin at Huttenstrasse 12. A memorial plaque was hung on Hauptstrasse 57 in Berlin-Wilhelmsruh . This has now been removed.
