Karl Markus

Karl Markus (* in Bocholt ) is a German tenor . With an extensive repertoire from baroque to new music, he is one of the most famous concert tenors in Europe. Above all, his interpretation of the evangelist parts in Bach 's passions are valued everywhere. Karl Markus is a prize winner a. a. the Concorso International de Canto in Rio de Janeiro and the singing competition in 's-Hertogenbosch .

Karl Markus was born in Bocholt (Westphalia). He studied with Heinz Marten at the Musikhochschule Köln and later continued his education with KS Hilde Zadeck and KS Jean Cox .

In 1974 he made his debut as Belmonte in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Aachen and also sang for several years at the Bern City Theater (most recently Flamand in Capriccio by Richard Strauss ) before he was appointed professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt in 1990 Main , where he has been teaching a solo singing class ever since.

Concert engagements take him to the most important music centers and festivals in Europe and the USA, where he made guest appearances at the Carmel Bach Festival for several years and taught a master class. Stations in recent years have been The Book with Seven Seals by Franz Schmidt in Pforzheim , the 9th Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven in Abu Dhabi , Missa by Hector Berlioz in Winterthur , evangelist in the St. John Passion at the Baroque Festival in Varaždin under Milan Horvat as well as the tenor cantata Rinaldo by Johannes Brahms in Bern .

Karl Markus retired from public concert life in 2002 and now devotes himself exclusively to the education of his students.
