Karl Marti

Karl Marti (born April 25, 1855 in Bubendorf BL , † April 22, 1925 in Bern ) was a Swiss theologian and university professor .

Life

Marti studied theology and ancient oriental studies , worked as a pastor from 1878 and as a private lecturer at the University of Basel from 1880 . From 1895 to 1925 he was full professor of the Old Testament and Semitic languages (from 1901) at the University of Bern , where he was rector from 1911 to 1912. From 1907 to 1924 he published the journal for Old Testament science .

Marti spread Julius Wellhausen's literary-critical concept, "which said that the formulation of the so-called Mosaic Law was younger than the prophets". He was awarded two honorary doctorates .

His estate is in the Bern Burger Library .
