Karl Friedrich Nagler (born July 1, 1876 in Triptis ; † June 11, 1938 there ; also Carl Friedrich Nagler or Carl Nagler ) was a German conductor and city music director .

Life

Karl Friedrich Nagler was born as the son of the musician Rudolf Nagler (1842–1921) and his wife Erdmuthe Pauline Nagler. Hädrich (1851–1914) born. He received his first music lessons in piano and violin from his father.

During his school days he was tutored by Kapellmeister Gottlieb Peter, who recognized his talent and continued to develop it. As a schoolboy he already appeared in chamber concerts. In 1895 he got a job as a first violinist ( concert master ) under Kapellmeister Gottlieb Baldreich at the Wilhelm Theater in Görlitz . After two years he ended his engagement there and moved to the Royal Conservatory of Music in Leipzig, founded by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , to further profile himself . Here he attended lectures in music theory and exercises from 1897 to 1899, a. a. with Carl Reinecke in conducting and solo playing, with Kapellmeister Hans Sitt in solo, score, quartet and orchestral playing, with Paul in harmony, piano playing and solo lectures, with Fritz von Bose in piano playing, with Ferdinand Weinschenk in trumpet as well as concertmaster help in violin playing.

During and after his studies, he took an active part in the city's musical life. He was a member of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and a teacher at the music school. As a violinist, he worked in the Gewandhaus and other cultural sites in the city together with the cello virtuoso Julius Klengel . In 1904 Nagler returned to his hometown Triptis to succeed the resigning Hermann Köpping (director of the town band). Here he initially took over the provisional management of the town band and the management of the uniformed music corps of the "Privileged Rifle Society" Triptis. On May 1, 1906, he was appointed city music director by the city administration. In addition to his role as the city's music director, he taught students how to play the violin and piano as well as music theory.

On May 21, 1912 he married Elsa Hedwig Müller (1892–1971). The marriage resulted in two children, Gerhard Kurt Nagler (1917–1942) and Ingrid Marianne Nagler (1914–1997). Ingrid Marianne Nagler studied piano under Robert Teichmüller and Otto Weinreich and appeared as a pianist. Karl Friedrich Nagler died in Triptis in 1938.

In 2004 the city of Triptis and the Privileged Shooting Society honored Nagler's achievements. His grave will be preserved as an honor grave.
