Karl Ollmert

Karl Ollmert (born February 12, 1874 in Herten in Westphalia, † April 9, 1965 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German politician ( center ).

Live and act

After attending elementary school in Herten from 1880 to 1888, Ollmert worked as a miner in various mines in the Ruhr area until 1906 . From 1896 to 1909 he officiated in Hamborn as the district manager of the Christian Miners Union of Germany. He then took on the same function in the Christian Miners Union of Germany in the Saar area. From 1912 to 1920 Ollmert worked as an editor for the Saarpost and the Saarbrücker Landeszeitung in Saarbrücken . Politically, he devoted himself to social policy and trade union issues in the following years. In 1917 Ollmert became a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituency of Saarburg-Merzig-Saarlouis. In 1918 he became a member of the Saarbrücken city council.

In February 1919, Ollmert was elected to the Weimar National Assembly as a candidate of the Center Party for constituency 21 (Koblenz and Trier) , of which he was a member until the election of the first republican Reichstag in June 1920. Ollmert then took part in the fight against French troops in Saarland, which had been under French occupation since the end of the war. Because of an alleged attack against the external security of the French state, Ollmert, who was meanwhile in Frankfurt, was sentenced in absentia by a French military court in Saarbrücken to be deported to a fortified camp for life.
