Karl Paul Freiherr von Quosdanovich ( Croat . Karlo Pavao barun Gvozdanović ), (* 1763 in Brezovac Žumberački in the Žumberak Mountains (Sichelburg), Croatia ; † February 5, 1817 in Pančevo ( Banat - then within the Habsburg Monarchy )) was a Croatian nobleman and Habsburg general , bearer of the Commander's Cross of the Military Maria Theresa Order .
Life
Quosdanovich came from an old Croatian Uskok family whose members had traditionally served in the military for several centuries. His relative Peter Vitus von Quosdanovich was a respected Lieutenant Field Marshal who distinguished himself in the War of the Bavarian Succession , the Russo-Austrian Turkish War 1787–1792 and in the War of the French Revolution .
As a young man he joined the Habsburg army. In 1796 he was captain , 1801 Major , 1809 Colonel , and on May 12, 1813, he was appointed Major General conveyed. In his military career he took part in several wars and many major battles, including the Russo-Austrian Turkish War 1787–1792 , the French Revolutionary Wars , and the Napoleonic Wars . In the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig he commanded a brigade in the corps of Feldzeugmeister Hieronymus von Colloredo-Mansfeld .
Quosdanovich often excelled in fighting for his skills, achievements and courage, and was awarded for it. He received, among others, the Knight's Cross (on August 18, 1801 as Major) and the Commander's Cross (on March 8, 1814 as Major General) of the Military Maria Theresa Order .
Karl Paul von Quosdanovich died on February 5, 1817 in Pančevo in the southern Banat , which was then in the Habsburg Banat military border.
