Karl Pilkington (born September 23, 1972 in Manchester ) is a British radio producer, radio presenter , podcaster , author and actor . He is known as a producer and, alongside Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, one of the hosts of the Ricky Gervais Show , initially a radio show, from 2005 a podcast, the animated version of which was broadcast in the US on HBO . He is also the author of several books in which he reveals his thoughts.

Life

Karl Pilkington grew up in Manchester and spent much of his childhood in Porthmadog , Wales because of his father's profession . He attended school in Manchester but had neither the disposition nor the motivation to study. During his tenure at the London radio station Xfm he learned in 2001 Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant know that after the success of the series The Office returned back to the sender. He became part of the Ricky Gervais Show , where he was often the focus of conversation due to his simple-minded and monotonous demeanor. After talking on their radio show , Gervais and Merchant contacted Pilkington's former school and found that he had only taken one GCSE history exam for which he got a 5. Pilkington was unpleasantly surprised by this fact, as he remembered taking several exams, but didn't seem to know that he should have registered before taking the exam so that the school would pay for his exam and subsequent correction and grading.

Pilkington has had a number of jobs, his favorite job to this day being newspaper delivery, which he did at the age of ten. He lives in London and Kent with his girlfriend Suzanne Whiston, where he is considered a hermit as even close friends rarely see him.

On April 24, 2006 , the New York Times published an article on Ricky Gervais and the podcast that described Pilkington's demeanor as a skillful dry humor that was a cross between Ali G and Steven Wright .

The remarkably round head shape of Pilkingtons regularly provides amusement, so that Gervais often compares him to a "fucking orange" - a "damn orange" - or a tennis ball.

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have repeatedly denied that Pilkington played any of the roles they invented.

TV

In September 2010, the TV series An Idiot Abroad ( Eng . "An idiot abroad") started on Sky1 in England with Karl Pilkington in the lead role, produced by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant . In the series, instigated by Gervais and Merchant, Pilkington is sent on an adventure trip around the world in order to get him out of his "familiar environment".

The series consisted of 3 seasons with eight episodes each in the first two seasons and three episodes in the third season (each episode 60 minutes). The last episode aired in December 2012. In the first season, Pilkington visits the New Wonders of the World to broaden his horizons. In the second, he can choose from a list of activities what he would like to do. In the third season, which was broadcast as a Christmas special on Sky1 in 2012 , Pilkington is accompanied by Warwick Davis in the footsteps of Marco Polo . The second season has been broadcast in Germany on DMAX since November 2012 .

A similar concept was first run in October 2013 and by November 2015 sent television series The Moaning of Life ( dt . "The whine of Life") followed. Here, however, Pilkington itself determined which countries should be visited. The series also aired on Sky 1 and consisted of two seasons.
