Karl Pilling

Karl Pilling (born October 7, 1863 in Gößnitz , Sachsen-Altenburg , † May 18, 1930 in Jena ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher .

Karl Pilling attended the Friedrichsgymnasium in Altenburg and then studied from 1882 in Jena , Berlin and Halle , where he received his doctorate in 1886. During his studies in 1882 he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity . In 1887 he passed the teaching examination and did his probationary year 1887/1888 at the Domgymnasium in Naumburg , where he was then employed as a teacher. In 1918 he switched to the cathedral grammar school in Merseburg , where he became director. He retired on April 1, 1929.

Like numerous other high school teachers of his time, he published alongside his teaching activities and contributed articles for Wilhelm Heinrich Roscher's Detailed Lexicon of Greek and Roman Mythology .
