The Domgymnasium Naumburg is one of the oldest grammar schools in Germany.

history

It goes back to a cathedral school , which was founded in the episcopal rooms immediately next to the Naumburg cathedral after the bishopric was moved from Zeitz to Naumburg in 1028 . It was first mentioned in a document in 1088 by Bishop Günther von Naumburg.

In 1532, most of the files from the cathedral and school were destroyed in a major fire. 1542 Reorganization into a three-class Latin school . In 1528 the cathedral school became Protestant, and subjects were taught Latin , Greek , Hebrew , religion , logic , rhetoric and singing .

It has been possible to take the matriculation examination at the cathedral school since 1802, and in the mid- 19th century it was converted into a nine-class full high school. In 1910 the company moved to the former Hospital Curia St. Crucis. The cathedral school was closed in 1950 and reopened in 1991. The school has only been called Domgymnasium again since May 9, 1992. In 2005, the Domgymnasium and the Lepsius-Gymnasium Naumburg were merged. The new grammar school is called Domgymnasium Naumburg. The “Lepsius House” branch was initially created from the former Lepsius Gymnasium.

The location on Seminarstrasse was closed for the 2007 school year. Since then, the school has been running exclusively in the buildings of the former Lepsius grammar school in Müntzerstraße and the Marienschule (formerly Johannes R. Becher Oberschule) in Poststraße.

From 2011 to 2013 the cathedral high school was completely renovated. On January 14, 2012, the Domgymnasium was awarded the 1,000th School Without Racism - School with Courage .

Association of old Naumburg cathedral students

Since 1920, the Association of Old Naumburg Cathedral Students (BaND eV) has been an alumni and support association for the Naumburg Cathedral High School. In 2006 it had about 240 members. The aim of the association is to promote the education and training of the students at the Naumburg Cathedral Gymnasium. In addition, it promotes the cohesion of former students and teachers. The association has been recognized as a non-profit organization since 1998 . In May 2009, the general assembly decided that in addition to the former students and teachers of the Domgymnasium, former students of the Lepsiusgymnasium and the Erich Weinert Extended High School can become full members. This takes account of the merger of the schools.
