Hugo Holstein

Hugo Holstein (born February 22, 1834 in Magdeburg , † December 27, 1904 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German philologist and high school teacher. He was an important literary historian and expert on the history of Magdeburg.

Life

Holstein attended the Magdeburg High School . After graduating from high school in the fall of 1852, he studied philology at the Friedrichs University in Halle . There he became a member of the newly founded Corps Teutonia II in 1853. In 1856/57 he completed the probationary year at the Domgymnasium Naumburg . After his military service as a one-year volunteer , he was employed there as a full teacher in 1858 . In autumn 1864 he switched to his previous school in Magdeburg, where he became a senior teacher in 1871 . After he was senior teacher at the Domgymnasium Verden from 1875 to Easter 1878 , he was rector of the Progymnasium in Geestemünde until 1885 . From 1869 he was Dr. phil. Since 1875 uncharacterized school teacher , he took to the fall of 1885 the reputation as a director of the Royal Gymnasium Wilhelmshaven on. He worked here until Easter 1901. He spent his retirement as a Geh. Councilor in Halle, where he died at the age of 71.

Until his death he was involved in the history and archeology association of the Duchy and Archbishopric of Magdeburg . He wrote many articles for historical journals and the papers for trade, industry and social life , a supplement to the Magdeburgische Zeitung . He was involved as editor in the series of reprints of German literary works of the 16th and 17th centuries .
