Carl Pischinger
Carl Pischinger (also Karl, born May 8, 1823 in Streitdorf ( Lower Austria ), † October 26, 1886 in Liezen ( Styria )) was an Austrian painter, etcher and lithographer.
Life
Pischinger studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in St. Annahof . From the beginning, Pischinger specialized in animal painting in oil and watercolor. The influence of Carl Schindler and Johann Matthias Ranftl is noticeable in his works . Since 1860 Pischinger regularly spent his summers at Nikolaus Dumba’s country estate in Tattendorf and in autumn in Liezen, where he had received a pension and free residence from Nikolaus Dumba. He died in his hunting lodge in Liezen in 1886.
Works
The young Pischinger owed his first fame to his picture "A Fuhrwerk", which was shown at the art exhibition of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1847 and bought by the Austrian Art Association. The depictions of animals occupy a larger part of his work, namely of dogs, which are depicted in different contexts and for which he wanted a precise description of animal psychology. Another group of works - always including depictions of animals - belongs to genre painting . Above all, his early works represent “mostly only small, inconspicuous incidents, cheerful idylls”, “in which the involuntary comedy of the animal scenes dominates. [...] Its coloring is colorful, the lighting is effective and still very much a Biedermeier style. ”The works shown in the annual exhibitions of the Austrian Art Association include a .: A market place (1851); A fire site ; An inn (1855); The scarecrow attacked ; The toll collector ; On the Heumarkt (1856); Dolce far niente ; The Interrupted Journey (1857); An investigation ; - old walls ; An opening credits (1859); The rival ; Luggage (1860); Farm ; Fair (1863); The weaker has to watch (1864); Before the city gate (1866); Vagabond Camp (1868).
