Jurryt Smid (born January 27, 1991 in The Hague ) is a Dutch ice hockey player who has been under contract with Hijs Hokij Den Haag again since 2017 and plays in the Belgian-Dutch BeNe League .
Career
Clubs
Jurryt Smid began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth division of the Zoetermeer Panters . At the age of 15 he moved to Hijs Hokij Den Haag and made his debut in the honor division . After only a year he returned to Zoetermeer and was on the ice for his home club in the Eerste divisie , the second highest division in the Netherlands. From 2008 to 2011 he was mainly on the ice with the Nijmegen Devils in the honor division, with whom he won the Dutch cup competition in 2009 and the championship title in 2010 , but also played for their league rivals Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam in the 2009/10 season . From 2011 he changed clubs every year and played one after the other for Hijs Hokij Den Haag, with whom he was cup winner in 2012, the Friedland Flyers , again in The Hague and the Tilburg Trappers , with whom he won the championship and cup double in 2014/15 could. From 2015 he played again for his home club, the Zoetermeer Panters, now in the newly founded Belgian-Dutch BeNe League , where he was voted the best defender of the BeNe League in 2016. He then joined Hijs Hokij Den Haag again, with whom he won the BeNe League and the Dutch championship in 2018.
International
Smid took part with the Dutch team in the U18 World Championships in 2008 in Division I and 2009 in Division II as well as in the U20 World Championships in 2010 and 2011 in Division II.
With the men's national team of his country, he took part in the World Championships in 2012 , 2013 and 2014 in Division I. After the Oranjes were relegated without Smid in 2015 and 2017, he played in Division II in 2016 and 2018 , both times with immediate promotion to Division I. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 and in Pyeongchang in 2018 .
