Karl Pius von Habsburg-Lothringen-Toskana (* December 4, 1909 in Vienna , † December 24, 1953 in Barcelona ) from the House of Habsburg-Lothringen ( Habsburg-Lothringen-Tuscany line ) was Archduke of Austria, who was named Carlos (VIII. ) Had been a pretender to the Spanish throne.

Life

The Archduke was baptized in the full name of Karl Pius Maria Adelgonde Blanka Leopold Ignaz Raphael Michael Salvator Kyrill Angelus Barbara von Österreich-Toscana . Karl Pius was a son of Archduke Leopold Salvator (1863-1931) (and thus a descendant of Emperor Leopold II ) and Blanka von Bourbon (1868-1949), daughter of Carlos María de los Dolores de Borbón (1848-1909), who had been as Carlos (VII) pretender to the Spanish throne.

Karl Pius also raised a claim to the throne as a Carlist pretender from 1943 to 1953 under the name of Carlos (VIII) . When he died in Barcelona in 1953 at the age of 44, however, he left behind only two underage daughters from a marriage that did not comply with the law of the house, which is why his four-year-old brother Archduke Franz Joseph Karl took over the entitlement.

He is buried in the Poblet monastery.
