Don Carlos (VI.)

Carlos Luis María Fernando de Borbón y Braganza (born January 31, 1818 in Madrid , † January 13, 1861 in Trieste ), Count of Montemolín, was the eldest son of the Carlist pretender Carlos María Isidro de Borbón .

Life

His mother was Maria Francesca of Portugal , his brother Juan Carlos de Borbón .

De Borbón lived in Madrid until 1833 , went to England with his father in 1834 , to Piedmont and Salzburg alone in 1835 , returned to Spain in 1838 and, like his father, had to stay in Bourges in 1839 . After his father's waiver (1845), he called himself Count of Montemolín. On July 10, 1850, he married his cousin Maria Carolina of Sicily (1820–1861); a sister of King Ferdinand II of the two Sicilies .

In 1860 he and his youngest brother Fernando and the commander of the Balearic Islands , Jaime Ortega , whom he won for himself, landed on the east coast of Spain near Tortosa during the Spanish-Moroccan War and was proclaimed King of Spain . However, he found no support at all, the soldiers refused to obey him, Ortega was shot on April 22nd and Carlos saved his life only by formally renouncing in favor of Isabella II. Set free, he took back the same June 15th.

On January 13, 1861 Carlos died with his wife Carolina and his brother Fernando in Trieste in an as yet unexplained manner and without leaving any children. The deceased was buried in a side chapel of the Cathedral of San Giusto in Trieste.
