Karl Rüter

Karl Rüter (born October 21, 1902 in Limmer , † February 18, 1986 in Bremen ) was a German painter.

biography

From 1920 to 1923 he attended the Hanover School of Applied Arts . He was a student of Richard Schlösser and Carl Wiederhold . He later became a member of the Neue Sachlichkeit group in his hometown. Her work has only been publicly recognized in recent years, for example through an exhibition in the Sprengel Museum and through some book publications.

Rüter made numerous trips to Italy , Spain and Prague . In 1943, his studio in downtown Hanover was bombed out, so that only six paintings from his pre-war work remained. In 1964 he moved to Bremen, where he died in 1986.

Honors

  • In 2003, the state capital Hanover honored the artist by naming Karl-Rüter-Strasse in the List district .
