Ludwig Zerull

Ludwig Zerull (born January 5, 1942 in Starogard ; † January 10, 2011 in Hanover ) was a German visual artist, author and art consultant .

Life

In 1945, Zerull's parents took their son with them on the run from West Prussia . At the beginning of the 1950s, they reached Hanover's old town and found an apartment on Kniehauerstrasse. Zerull attended the Ratsgymnasium Hannover and after graduating from high school studied painting and art education at the young University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig . From 1969 Zerull worked for ten years as editor of the magazine Kunst + Studium . In the season 1978/79 he worked as a dramaturge at the theater in Nuremberg and from 1988 to 1989 as the chief set designer in Münster . Mostly he worked as a freelancer. He advised the Lower Saxony Sparkassen- und Girozentrale on the purchase of art, wrote reports on independent theaters and thus influenced the allocation of funds by the Lower Saxony Lotto Foundation . Zerull wrote books, among others about the painters Franz Belting , Werner Nöfer , Karl Schaper and Peter Basseler .

He painted throughout his life; predominantly large-format representational images with unusual perspectives.

Zerull lived at Kniehauerstrasse 17 until his death. He died of a stroke on January 5, 2011.
