Karl Ranz

Karl Ranz (* December 5, 1931 ; † April 8, 2019 ) was Chief City Director of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf from 1987 to 1992 .

Ranz was a member of the SPD. Before he was appointed senior city director, he was head of social affairs in Düsseldorf (1978 to 1987) and was a member of the city council from 1964 to 1977.

As a head of department and later as city director, he played a key role in the conflict between the city administration and squatters , especially the residents of Kiefernstrasse . On July 12, 1992, Ranz resigned for health reasons. He left his riding club in protest against a right-wing radical.

Ranz was awarded the Council's Ring of Honor, the Cross of Merit on Ribbon and the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
