Karl Rechbauer

Karl Rechbauer (born January 6, 1815 in Graz , † January 12, 1889 ibid) was an Austrian lawyer and politician.

Life

After studying law at the University of Graz in his hometown , Rechbauer received his doctorate in both rights in 1839 . In 1846 he was appointed court and court advocate . In 1850 he was elected as a community representative, in 1861 finally a member of the Styrian state parliament. He was sent by the state parliament as a representative to the Vienna Reichsrat , of which he was a member until 1885. Rechbauer acted as a leading representative of the Autonomist Party that emerged from the German Liberal Party . He advocated the greatest possible autonomy for the countries, based on the given constitution. He was one of the protagonists of the reconciliation with the Hungarian part of the empire of the Danube monarchy.

In 1867 his hometown Graz made Karl Rechbauer an honorary citizen. A street in Graz was named after Rechbauer while he was still alive.
