Karl Renner (fire brigade commander)
Karl Renner (born May 13, 1833 in Heilbronn ; † September 22, 1913 there ) was a businessman , long-time fire brigade commander in Heilbronn, district inspector of the fire brigades in the Heilbronn Oberamt and chairman of the Württemberg state fire brigade association . He has received numerous awards. The Rennerbrunnen near Heilbronn Jägerhaus was built in his honor .
Life
He was the eldest son of the Heilbronn merchant Ludwig Gottlieb Renner. After attending school in Heilbronn, he completed a three-year commercial training course in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, from 1848 to 1851 . After further years of apprenticeship and traveling, he returned to his home town of Heilbronn in 1856 and worked in his father's business, a cloth and carpet shop in Heilbronn's Sülmerstrasse, which he later continued. In June 1856 he volunteered in the Steiger department of the mixed fire brigade of the city of Heilbronn. He was also otherwise involved in the fire service and was elected chairman in 1861, then appointed fire service commander in Heilbronn in 1872. In 1874 he became district inspector of the fire brigades in the Heilbronn Oberamt. In 1882 he was appointed to the state fire brigade committee, in 1891 he became chairman of the state association. In 1893 he sold his trading business and devoted himself entirely to the fire department before retiring in 1906 due to age in the regional association. He remained district inspector of the Oberamt until his death.
In the Heilbronn fire brigade in 1890 he worked to transform the mixed fire brigade (with compulsory firefighters) into a purely voluntary fire brigade . Under his leadership at the fire site, 299 fires were fought in Heilbronn. Later, in addition to fire protection, he also turned to flood protection in the city on the Neckar . Under his direction, an electrical fire alarm and alarm system was set up in Heilbronn in 1893 as an alarm clock line with initially ten alarm clocks. In 1897 he initiated the construction of a gasoline engine fire engine, which was manufactured at Bachert in Kochendorf in collaboration with the Heilbronn engine factory in Klunzinger.
Renner has received numerous awards for his services, including the Knight's Cross First Class of the Württemberg Order of Frederick , the Württemberg Order of Olga and the Bavarian Cross of Merit. In the population he was commonly called Major Renner because of his uniform with silver shoulder mirrors and decorations . The Heilbronn Beautification Association built the Rennerbrunnen near Heilbronn Jägerhaus in his honor in 1910 .
After suffering a minor stroke in 1912, he experienced the celebrations for his 80th birthday in May 1913 in relatively good health, but then died in September of the same year. His funeral in Heilbronn took place with great sympathy from the population.
A son of Karl Renner was Lieutenant General and Pour-le-Mérite carrier Theodor Ludwig Renner (1865–1950).
