Karl Rudolph Graefe

Karl Rudolph Gräfe (born June 18, 1730 in Taucha ; † February 10, 1805 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer, archivist and long-time director of the Dresden Secret Archives .

Life

Karl Rudolph Gräfe was born in Taucha as the son of the lawyer of the same name and his wife Johanna Sophia Siegel. After the family moved to Leipzig, he attended the Thomas School from 1740 and then studied at the University of Leipzig until 1755 . Here he heard lectures by Johann Heinrich Winckler , Christian Gottlieb Jöcher , Johann Florenz Rivinus and Christian Heinrich Breuning and received his doctorate in 1755. In 1763 he became a full professor for feudal law and assessor of the law faculty at the University of Leipzig. In 1764 he was appointed court and judiciary to Dresden. From 1765 he was a secret trainee lawyer and archivist and headed the secret archive from 1765 to 1795.
