Karl Siebert (trade unionist)

Karl Siebert (born January 29, 1896 in Berlin ; † December 31, 1973 ) was a German trade unionist ( FDGB ). He was chairman of the central board of the Post and Telecommunications Industry Union.

Life

Siebert attended elementary school and completed a postal apprenticeship. From 1913 he was organized in a union. In the same year he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). In 1919 he moved to the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD) and in 1920 to the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). In 1928 he became a member of the SPD again. Until 1928 he was a postman at the Reichspost , then from 1928 to 1933 an employee of the general association of public companies in the Berlin district.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, he was dismissed in 1933 and did illegal work. From 1936 to 1945 he was employed as a commercial clerk at " Daimler Benz " in Berlin-Marienfelde .

After the end of the war, he joined the KPD in 1945 and in 1946 became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany . From 1945 he was an employee of the Oberpostdirektion Greater Berlin. In 1946 he was the first chairman of the Central Works Council of the Post and Telecommunications Administration. From 1946 he was a member of the executive board of IG Post and Telecommunications. From March 1947 to 1950 he acted as the first chairman of the central board of IG Post and Telecommunications. Later he was head of the main department for culture and work in the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in the GDR .

Siebert, holder of the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver, died at the age of 77 and was buried in the central cemetery in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde .
