Leo Wanzke

Leo Wanzke (born April 11, 1905 in Schwientochlowitz , district of Beuthen , † after 1955) was a German trade unionist ( FDGB ). He was chairman of the central board of the Post and Telecommunications Industry Union.

Life

Wanzke, the son of an electrician , attended elementary school and completed an apprenticeship as an electrician . He then worked in the profession, including in the electrical engineering department of the Bavarian nitrogen works in Piesteritz and in Pratau and Elsnig (Torgau district). In 1930 Wanzke joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and the Arbeiter-Sport-Bund. After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, he did illegal work. He was temporarily detained and placed under police supervision.

In 1945 Wanzke rejoined the KPD and was chairman of the KPD local group in Dommitzsch (Torgau district). In 1946 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and chairman of the SED local group. At times he also acted as deputy mayor of Dommitzsch.

In 1945 Wanzke became a member of the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB). From 1948 he was chairman of the state management of the IG Post and Telecommunications of Saxony-Anhalt . From 1950 to 1952 he was chairman of the central board of IG Post and Telecommunications. Later he was plant manager of the VEB concrete works Frankfurt (Oder) .
