Karl Stargardt

Karl Bruno Stargardt (born December 4, 1875 in Berlin , † April 2, 1927 in Marburg ) was a German ophthalmologist. Stargardt's disease is named after him .

Life

Stargardt began to study medicine at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1894 he was reciprocated in the Corps Rhenania Heidelberg . When he was inactive , he moved to the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . In 1899 he was at the University of Kiel to Dr. med. PhD. He completed his ophthalmological training with Carl Völckers at the University Eye Clinic and became a senior physician. In 1903 he completed his habilitation. He later moved to the Eye Clinic of the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Universität Strasbourg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1909, he gained a special reputation in specialist circles with the description of the juvenile juvenile macular degeneration later named after him . When Alfred Bielschowsky moved to the University of Breslau in 1923, Stargardt followed him on the chair of the Philipps University of Marburg and in the management of the German Institute for the Blind, founded by Bielschowsky . His field of interest extended over a particularly large number of medical disciplines from neurology to the core area of ​​ophthalmology to internal medicine. A few years later he developed nephritis and heart failure . He died in office at the age of 51.
