Karl Sterrer was a typical representative of historicist art. At the time of the expansion of the Vienna Ringstrasse zone , he created figure decorations on various monumental buildings, with his most important works for the Parliament and the New Castle . In 1888 he caused a certain stir with his allegorical group of figures, Die Liebe zum Volke , which he created in the image of Crown Princess Stephanie and her daughter, and which Crown Prince Rudolf bought. After government contracts with the end of the expansion of the ring road zone failed to materialize, Sterrer had to hire out restoration work in his final years.
