Karl Theodor Hartweg
Karl Theodor Hartweg (born June 18, 1812 in Karlsruhe as Carl Theodor Hartweg , † February 3, 1871 in Schwetzingen ) was a German botanist . He was a plant collector for the Royal Horticultural Society in London . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Hartw. ".
Live and act
From 1836 to 1847 he collected plants in various countries on the American continent, most of which were described by George Bentham . The plants that Hartweg brought back from his expeditions include numerous fuchsias as well as orchids and cacti.
Then he was garden inspector in the palace gardens in Schwetzingen.
Honors
The plant genera Hartwegia Lindl. from the orchid family and Hartwegiella O.E. Schulz from the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae) are named after him.
