Karl Wahle

Karl Wahle (born June 6, 1887 in Vienna , † June 15, 1970 ibid) was an Austrian judge and President of the Supreme Court .

Life

Wahle received his doctorate in law in 1911 and passed the state examination at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in the same year. He worked as a judge from 1919 and from 1921 assigned to the Vienna Commercial Court. He wrote numerous scientific papers and was co-editor of the “Richterzeitung” and the “Evidenzblatt”. After the "Anschluss of Austria" , Wahle was suspended from work on March 15, 1938 because of his Jewish descent. In May 1942 he learned of his imminent deportation, he went into hiding and, together with his wife, managed to survive underground until the end of the war.

In April 1945 he was appointed provisional head of the Vienna Commercial Court. In 1946 he obtained his habilitation for commercial and bill of exchange law at the University of Vienna . In 1948 he was appointed to the Council of the Supreme Court and later became its first president. He was also president of the judges' association and professor at the University of Vienna. He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
